New Entrance at Ferney

Written by Sandrine Maingard

Exciting changes are underway at the entrance of Ferney! A major road upgrade is in progress around Vieux Grand Port, with work having started in November 2024. The transformation will enhance both access and safety at the point leading to the old sugar mill.

By mid-2025, the entrance and a stretch of the main road—both toward Vieux Grand Port and Rivière des Créoles—will have a brand-new look. The revamped entrance will feature a new roundabout, a wider road, a pedestrian walkway and clear, elegant signage.

This roundabout will also serve as the gateway to a new main road, marking the beginning of the Ferney Tropical Agrihood—an innovative project that blends nature, community, and sustainable living.

These improvements will not only make the area more welcoming and functional but also reflect Ferney’s vision for a greener, more connected future.

Ferney Reception

During the ongoing roadworks, access to Ferney’s reception area—located in the charming Creole house near the entrance—will remain unchanged. The route from this house to the estate’s main attractions will also stay the same.

However, with the launch of the new entrance in a few months, visitors will discover a new courtyard and parking area around the Colonial house, enhancing their experience at Ferney.

This initiative is part of a broader project led by CIEL Properties, the owner of Ferney, aimed at improving road infrastructure for the benefit of residents, visitors, and the public travelling through the region.

Since 2023, CIEL Properties has been spearheading an ambitious, integrated development plan for Ferney under the Tropical Agrihood concept—a forward-thinking approach to sustainable living.

At the core of this vision is a commitment to:

  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Outdoor activities
  • Low-impact residential developments
  • Ongoing conservation programmes for the region’s unique flora and fauna

The project also places strong emphasis on community involvement and empowerment. By recognising and enhancing the skills of local villagers—particularly in sustainable farming and artisanal crafts—the initiative ensures they play an active role in Ferney’s ongoing development.

This new chapter for Ferney blends nature, community, and innovation, creating a model for responsible development that benefits both the land and its people.
