Farm Living in Ferney: Reconnecting with the Soil
At the heart of Mauritius’s first agrihood, Farm Living combines sustainable agriculture, energy autonomy and bioclimatic housing. The concept is open to Mauritians and foreigners alike, offering a unique opportunity to embrace a sustainable, forward-looking lifestyle.
‘Farm Living is a pioneering project in the heart of an exceptional setting, offering nature lovers plots of land dedicated to sustainable development and agriculture, while allowing residential use’, Yan Jauffret, Director of Select Property Services and responsible for sales of the project.
A groundbreaking concept in Mauritius
Combining the words agriculture and neighbourhood, the ‘agrihood’ concept combines exceptional quality of life with sustainable agriculture. Each plot covers 1 to 3 acres and will be home to a bioclimatic residence surrounded by responsible crops growing a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. The aim is to promote agro-ecological farming while offering buyers a unique living environment in the heart of nature.
‘Farm Living aims to enhance the value of land that was once under cane and is now abandoned, while providing an opportunity to invest in sustainable agriculture. This is a unique project that offers, in addition to the agricultural aspect, a peaceful living environment with a strong environmental dimension, a 17-hectare reforestation area and low-carbon infrastructure,’ explains Luke Maurel, Head of Business Unit in Ferney for CIEL Properties.
A sustainable lifestyle
This focus on respect for nature does not stop at farming. Farm Living’s ambition is to create communities of residents with a low environmental impact, committed to reducing their carbon footprint and returning to a quieter lifestyle. To achieve this, the houses will be entirely self-sufficient in energy thanks to photovoltaic systems, and their bioclimatic design will allow for natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting and the recycling of grey water for plot irrigation. On the doorstep of this project is La Vallée de Ferney, offering Farm Living residents the chance to immerse themselves in nature on a daily basis.
Ferney: a player in Mauritius’ agricultural resilience
Farm Living is part of CIEL’s ongoing efforts to develop innovative and sustainable agriculture in Ferney, with the aim of helping to lead Mauritius towards greater food resilience. The Ferney Agri-Hub, which has been in operation since 2020, was the first project in this CIEL Group initiative. It hosts around fifteen Mauritian and foreign agri-entrepreneurs committed to sustainable agriculture in an ecosystem conducive to their success. In 2022, Ferney Agri-Hub welcomed Katapult, an international programme supported by Norwegian funds and several Mauritian groups. It is a start-up accelerator for food tech and agri-tech solutions for African markets.
